MHF20: CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF THE MARK HOWLETT FOUNDATION

MHF20 marks the 20 year lifespan of the Foundation. The Grand Finale has been celebrated with the commissioning of 12 (of the original 14 artists) to produce 3 original artworks and one print to an edition of 60. Each of the 36 subscribers receive original work (by ballot) and a boxed set of the signed prints, which vary in technique (etching, linocut, silkscreen, Giclee). This Sportsman’s Suite is a rich, diverse representation of West Australian art. The sets are available for purchase through the Mark Howlett Foundation.

MHF was an incorporated, not-for-profit, arts organization established in 1991. Since its inception its focus has been to support mid-career Western Australian artists by using an innovative and sustainable subscription model. It enabled an artist to work ‘without a brief’ to create a substantial body of artwork over a period of 12 to18 months. The mid-career artists are chosen by Board consensus based on their track record, but also mindful of their current circumstances. The MHF Board then sorted out and coordinated a compatible group of subscribers who each contributed a fixed amount, thereby supporting the artist financially for the duration of the project. On completion, each subscriber would receive an original artwork as well as a suite of prints (or an edition of objects).
